Properly done, teeth whitening can remove the unsightly stains and discoloration that are likely to mar the appearance of teeth over the years (aging, smoking, the consumption of coffee, red wine and certain fruits and vegetables are the usual “culprits”) and give you the white, bright teeth that make for a truly attractive, confident, winning smile.
While there are dozens of over-the-counter whitening products for use at home and any number of toothpastes that claim to have whitening properties, results are mixed at best.
They are unable to match the dramatic results of in-office teeth whitening using a bleaching light along with custom-fitted home bleaching trays, made by our in-house lab at no additional charge. The procedure is expertly performed by a cosmetic dentist or licensed dental hygienist. This is the fastest, safest and most reliable of the whitening processes.
In-office whitening can often last as long as five years
Imperfections or problems like slightly overlapping or irregularly shaped teeth, tiny chips in the teeth, or excessively pointy teeth on the side of your mouth can often be fixed with a little tooth reshaping and dental contouring. Also dental contouring can improve overall dental health by removing crevices or overlaps between teeth in which plaque or tartar can accumulate.
Tooth reshaping, also called dental contouring, is a cosmetic dentistry technique that removes small amounts of tooth enamel (the outer covering of the tooth) in order to change the shape, length, or surface of one or more teeth. Sometimes just a few millimeters of reduction in the right places can dramatically improve the appearance of teeth. The process is often combined with bonding, a cosmetic dentistry treatment that uses tooth-colored composite material to sculpt and shape the teeth. Dental contouring is considered a very conservative approach to changing the appearance of your teeth.
Dental veneers (sometimes called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates) are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their color, shape, size, or length. They are made from porcelain or resin composite materials. Porcelain veneers resist stains better than resin veneers and better mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth.
Smiles that would benefit from veneers...
- If you have discolored teeth that will not accept whitening treatment; either because of root canal treatment; stains from medications, fluoride or off shaded fillings.
- Teeth that have shortened due to grinding
- Chipped, broken teeth, misaligned, uneven, gapped, or irregularly shaped teeth
